Rick Bright, Hutchinson High School Class of 1984, was named to the president-elect's COVID-19 advisory board Monday. He is on the HHS Wall of Honor (2017 class).
A native of Hutchinson – growing up in downtown Hutchinson – Bright graduated from HHS in 1984 and attended the University of Kansas for two years before finishing his bachelor’s degree in biology – medical technology – and physical sciences from Auburn University. He went on to get his Ph.D. in immunology and molecular pathogenesis from Emory University.
He has spent a career with roles in both government and private enterprise.

Officially, the 2020-21 school year will be a third over next week as the first trimester ends.
As a result, schedules will change. Our pre-kindergartners through middle school students will be on the modified hybrid schedule with Group A attending on Monday and Wednesday and Group B attending on Tuesday and Thursday.
There will be no classes for district students (pre-kindergarten through 12th grade) on Friday, Nov. 13.
HHS will be on a finals schedule next week that is altered by the modified hybrid schedule. HHS’ Group A will attend on Monday, but Tuesday through Thursday are finals.

With the Hutchinson High School Salthawks advancing to the regional round of football playoffs, the state activities association rules change admission charges.
Tickets for Friday’s game at Gowans Stadium cost $7 for adults and $5 for students (kindergarten through seniors). No passes will be accepted for admission. Additionally, with the gating criteria in effect, only two tickets will be available per participant, and spectators must have one of those tickets in order to buy one. No walk-up tickets will be sold; only people with a participant ticket will be allowed to buy a ticket at the gate.
HHS hosts Wichita’s Bishop Carroll in Friday night’s game that kicks off at 7 p.m.

Even with remote learning, some concerts at Hutchinson High School will go on this fall in USD 308.
The gating criteria allows for varsity-level extra-curricular and co-curricular activities as HHS with limited crowds. The week of Oct. 26 will have four vocal music concerts, under the direction of Roger Wilson, that will be performed in the HHS Performing Arts Center.

Thursday, Oct. 29

There are breaks between the concerts to each night to allow for cleaning of the center between groups.
Then at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, HHS fall jazz concert will be performed under the direction of Daryl Koestel.
The concerts will be aired on YouTube for family and community members who cannot attend in person.
Remember that the Book Fair is this week! The Book Fair will be open from 7:30 AM to 4 PM each day. Don't forget to send money with your kids so that they can check out the latest reads!
There is a PTO Meeting tonight at 7:30 in the auditorium. We will be discussing the budget for next year.
