USD 308 Board approves out-of-district policy, Allen name discussion
The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education approved a policy determining the capacity amounts of each school and measurements of good standing in the district.
The new policy stems from a Kansas State Legislature law that mandates districts calculate capacities for each individual school building, making it easier for out-of-district students to transfer to another school.
Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson explained to the board that while educators have been previously counting attendance, the practice is now officially on the books.
“The legislature passed a new statute last year. It’s something educators have been doing, but it’s now law. We have to put our practice in policy,” Johnson said.
Johnson also said that the district has had conversations on what constitutes good standing and that academics are not considered during that discussion. She also said that she would speak with principals from each school to determine the estimated capacity and what constitutes good standing in the district.
