USD 308 Kansas Teachers of the Year announced

With the 2019-20 school year winding down, two Hutchinson Public Schools teachers have received district honors.

Amber Carithers, English teacher at Hutchinson High School, and Courtney Bleything, fifth grade teacher at Morgan Elementary School, have been nominated as the district’s entries in the Kansas National Teacher of the Year competition.

Normally, the district’s Classified Employee of the Year would be announced at the same time. Because of COVID-19, that recognition is being pushed to late summer.

Letter to our parents on COVID-19 precautions

Below is a letter we've shared with our parents.

March 12, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. We want to share basic facts with you and what the district is doing at this point to keep your family healthier.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Confirmation can only be done with a specialized respiratory test. According to KDHE there are four confirmed cases in Kansas.

Morgan musicians hit the road on Christmas ukulele tour

It may not be 11 pipers piping or 12 drummers drumming for the 12 Day of Christmas, but how about a whole bunch of elementary school students uka-ling?

Morgan Elementary School has students in third through sixth grades this fall who are learning how to play the ukulele. Students voted to go caroling around town in the form of playing their ukuleles or “uka-ling” during the holiday season and singing carols.
