Lincoln to have Hotdogs and Haircuts

HaircutChances are in the fall of 2066 a student from Lincoln Elementary School will look at his class photo from 2016, and remember a hotdog.

Oct. 17, Lincoln was joined by First Presbyterian Church, Sydney’s and local salons to present the first ever “Hotdogs and Haircuts” at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln, 315 East Bigger.

Kiblinger finalist for Kansas Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Shelly KiblingerHutchinson Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Shelly Kiblinger is among three superintendents selected as finalists for the Kansas School Superintendents Association Superintendent of the Year.

HHS presents 'Into the Woods'

The Hutchinson High School Drama Department presented the musical Into the Woods at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 through 15 in the HHS Performing Arts Center.

The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and is based on a book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.

HMS at Allen gets virtual reality machines

Students work on virtual reality machinesThanks to new virtual reality machines, students at Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen will be able to examine worlds normally out of their reach.

HMS at Allen has received eight zSpace virtual reality machines, thanks to a $38,000 grant from Alcoa. When coupled with software, the machines allow students at the STEM (science-technology-engineering-mathematics) school to have a wide range of experiences from their classrooms.

While Hutchinson High School senior Julia Hardenburger didn’t advance to the second round of the first-ever Live Art competition for students in Wichita on Friday (Sept. 23, 2016), what happened next is something she’ll forever remember.

College Planning Conference slated

The annual College Planning Conference at Hutchinson High School will be from 9:20 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Salthawk Activity Center.

 Representatives from 55 community colleges, private colleges, regents universities, and the military will be available to answer questions and provide information to students. Juniors will attend from 9:20 to 10:00 a.m. will seniors will attend from 10 to 11 a.m.

HHS volleyball holds Pink Out Night

The Hutchinson High School volleyball team will host its annual Pink Out Night to support the Cancer Council of Reno County and breast cancer awareness. The event will be during the Oct. 18 matches against Salina South. First matches begin at 5 p.m. in the Salthawk Activity Center.

The team is selling Pink Out Night t-shirts for the event, costing $12 each with a $2 additional charge for XXL and XXXL. T-shirts should be ordered from the HHS office by Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Proceeds from the t-shirt sales go to support the Cancer Council.

Miller, McKinsey named 2016 Fall Homecoming royalty

Alix Miller was crowned queen and Dominic McKinsey was crowned king of fall homecoming at Hutchinson High School Friday night.

 

The coronation was the highlight of the fall 2016 homecoming at HHS. The two will reign over the annual fall homecoming dance from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 24, 2016) in the HHS Cafeteria.

Legion Riders to help with Flag Salute Friday

Hutchinson Middle School – 8 students started Friday (Sept. 23, 2016) with the opening pledge led by local American Legion Riders. The school is located at 200 West 14th.

Shortly before school started Friday, the student body gathered in front of the school for the Pledge of Allegiance with the motorcycle-mounted Legion riders.

HHS homecoming week Sept. 18 to 24

The 2016 fall homecoming at Hutchinson High School continues.

Royalty for the fall 2016 event include king candidates Braden Archer, Ryen Cox, Kolby Holmberg, Jacob Lemonds, Dominic McKinsey and Seth Ramirez. Queen candidates are Brooke Ackley, Anna Deal, Selena Galindo, Sarah Ivey, Alix Miller and Taylor Perry.

During second hour on Friday, finalists for king and queen will be introduced at HHS. The annual homecoming parade begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday at B and Main in Hutchinson and moves north on Main to 7th.
