Henline, HHS thespians excel at conference

Thespian MasksNot only was the Hutchinson High School Thespian Troupe recognized as a Gold Honor Troupe during last weekend’s state Thespian Conference, Tobie Henline, drama teacher at HHS, was named the Educator of the Year.

Henline was named Kansas Region 5 Thespian Teacher of the Year during the event. Henline has been drama teacher at HHS since the 2003-04 school year.

The HHS Thespian Troupe 2277 as a whole received the Gold Honor Troupe award for their work not only on shows, but community service and innovative projects throughout the year. Students Veda Mansur and Alexandra Miller were instrumental in putting the application together.

Additionally, Jake Lemonds received a $1,000 scholarship to aid with college next year. Only 10 of the scholarships are given out annually with about 70 student who compete for them.

Lemonds also received 28 performance callbacks and 20 technical callbacks from colleges that are interested in him.

The HHS Improv team received 2nd place in competitive improv. The members of that team are: Sage Williams, Alexandra Miller, Damarcus Myer, Shayla Bellamy and Austin Childs.

Damarcus Myer was chosen to perform with the statewide improv team in front of the entire conference (about 2,000 people). Myer received a "Superior" rating on his Individual event and is eligible to compete at International Thespian Festival this year.
