HHS raises funds for hunger with Empty Bowls

ChairThe Seventh Empty Bowls event combined art and food to raise money to fight hunger and raise awareness about food security. The event on Nov. 15, 2016, raised more than $2,000.

For a donation of $5 or more, participants could choose from a wide variety of artwork crafted by students from the district. Pieces include potter’s wheel thrown bowls, and advanced wood shop students from HHS will create pieces.

Other donations come from Hutchinson Community College and Barton County Community College as well as artists Antonio Martinez and Carol Long. Wendy’s is donating chili for a seventh year.

A silent auction will feature some bowls made by local artists as well as a painted chair.

Proceeds raised will go to Food 4 Kids backpack program, the Reno County Food Bank and the Heifer Project International.
