4-year-old pre-school has openings

Hutchinson Public Schools has vacancies for a high-quality pre-school program serving 4-year-olds. The program is designed for families who have certain educational risk factors.

Applications are being taken for the program at the Administration Center, 1520 North Plum, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Classes begin Aug. 17 and run half-days Mondays through Thursdays at Lincoln, Avenue A and Graber. The program has both morning and afternoon sessions.

Families who live in Hutchinson USD 308 are eligible for the openings. Children for the program will be selected by the degree of need, based on the following criteria:

  • Poverty (families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals)
  • Single-parent families
  • Department for Children and Families (DCF) referral
  • Teen parents
  • Either parent lacking a high school diploma or GED
  • Child qualifies for migrant status
  • English language learners
  • Developmentally or academically delayed in cognitive development, physical development, communication/literacy, social-emotional/behavior or adaptive behavior/self-help skills

Children must be 4 years old by Aug. 31. The program uses research-based practices and has a low student-teacher ratio.

For more information, contact Vance Mayes at (620) 615-4000.

Note: Below are the income eligibility guidelines for free- and reduced-price meals for 2016-17. Please remember that income is only one of eight factors. A child may not qualify because of family income but would qualify for any of the other seven factors.
