When the annual Eastern Kansas Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition opens Feb. 1, Hutchinson High School will be well represented.

There will be a total of 14 HHS works in the exhibition. Of those 14, eight received Gold Key (first place) finishes in competition. In all, jurors picked 152 pieces as Gold Key winners.

The regional Gold Key works are submitted for the national judging process. Any artists with pieces selected as Gold Key at nationals their art work will be in New York City for the summer show.

An additional six Silver Key (second place) winners are from Salthawk artists and will be featured in the Mark Arts exhibit as well. The exhibition is Feb. 1 through March 23 at Mark Arts in Wichita. In all there were 166 Silver Key winners in the show.

An additional 13 pieces from HHS were listed as honorable mention. In all, there were 309 honorable mention pieces selected by the jurors.

Overall, there were 2,400 entries for the Eastern Kansas Scholastics competition.

There will be an exhibition opening for award recipients and their families from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at Mark Arts and an open house/awards ceremony on March 23. The open house is from 1 to 3 p.m. on March 23 with the Gold Key and Cash Awards ceremony set for 3 p.m. Mark Arts is located at 1307 N. Rock Road in Wichita.
