Fourth negotiations session set

The fourth negotiations session for the 2017-18 negotiated agreement between Hutchinson Public Schools and the National Education Association-Hutchinson will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at the Administration Center, 1520 N. Plum St.

Except for caucus periods of the individual groups, the negotiations are open meetings. Normally, the two groups meet several times for negotiations.

HHS presents 'Sister Act' Oct. 19-21

Three actresses from "Sister Act"The Hutchinson High School Drama Department will present the widely acclaimed Sister Act at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 through 21 in the Hutchinson High School Performing Arts Center, 810 E. 13th Ave.

Second annual Hotdogs and Haircuts set at Lincoln

Two students getting haircutsChances are in the fall of 2067 a student from Lincoln Elementary School will look at his class photo from 2017, and remember a hotdog.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, Lincoln will be joined by First Presbyterian Church and local salons and barbers to present the second annual ever “Hotdogs and Haircuts” at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln, 315 East Bigger. Picture day at Lincoln is the following morning.

Delgado, Rodriguez named royalty

King Delgado and Queen RodriguezValetin Delgado and Kyra Rodriguez were named Homecoming royalty for fall 2017 at Hutchinson High School. Delgado was crowned king prior to Friday’s HHS vs. Salina South football game and Rodriguez was crowned queen at halftime.

Other finalists for king were Zane Allender, Joesiah Galindo, Tre Vaughn Jones, Max Ontjes and Brody Smith. Other finalists for queen were Mariah Cannon, Carson Cox, Ally Lusk, Grace Scott and Raegan Wessel.

Speaker talks about impacts of trauma on students

Jim Sporleder will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at CrossPoint, 1410 E. 30th Ave. Earlier in the day, Sporleder will work with educators.

Tom Kelly debate slated

Large number of debate trophiesThe Hutchinson High School debate team will host the 40th annual Tom Kelly invitational debate tournament on Oct. 13 and 14 at HHS. The tournament is named for Tom Kelly, a long-time Hutchinson debate coach. The tournament is a qualifier for the state’s Debate Coaches Invitational, which is held each January.

Wessel tabbed as student athlete of the month

Hutchinson High School senior Raegan Wessel is the Reno County State Farm Student Athlete of the Month for September. Raegan received her plaque Friday from Hutchinson State Farm Agent Brandon Meyer.

Raegan, daughter of Tasha and Bob Wessel, currently participates in tennis and soccer as well as the Salthawk Marching Band. She also played basketball as a freshman and sophomore. 

Little cheerleader clinic set

The Hutchinson High School Little Cheerleader Clinic has changed a bit for 2017.

The HHS cheer squad will put on the clinic for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Unlike past years, however, the clinic will be on a Saturday with the game the following Friday. In the past, the clinic and game at which the students cheered was the same night.

Teachers nominated for ECET2-Kansas

Nine USD 308 teachers have been nominated to attend the second annual ECET2Kansas conference in November at Overland Park.

ECET2 stands for Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers. The goal of the conference is to help teachers grow, collaborate and lead.

Nominated to attend from Hutchinson are Kristi Link, Jesse Ediger, Rachel Hill, Kris Jenkins, Heather Ramos, Jessica Self, Jaime Tilton, Ashleigh Vieyra and Megan Yoder.

HHS Wall of Honor inducts three

The 19th class of the Wall of Honor at Hutchinson High School features a trio of HHS alumni.

The 2017-18 honorees are Dr. Rick Bright, class of 1984; Sean James, class of 1987; and Dr. Susan Killian Myers, class of 1973.
