Ewy to head HHS in 2019-20

The district didn’t have far to look for a new high school principal.

Ryan Ewy will be recommended to the Board of Education to become the next principal at Hutchinson High School. His name will be on Monday’s Personnel Report to the Board.

Ewy has been assistant principal at HHS since the 2015-16 school year. He joined the district in 2012-13 as a social studies teacher at Hutchinson Middle School – 8.

HHS remains Class 6A

HHS remains a Class 6A school in all sports and activities in this morning's KSHSAA classification update. Class 6A is the largest school classification in Kansas.

HHS has 1,096 students for football (KSHSAA only counts freshmen through juniors) and is the fourth smallest school in the 32-school Class 6A. Football is done every other year and was updated in 2017 for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Royalty crowned, Wall of Honor inductees recognized.

Queen Olivia Justice and King Damarcus MyerDamarcus Myer and Olivia Justice were crowned king and queen Friday night as Hutchinson High School Fall Homecoming royalty. Myer was crowned prior to the kickoff of the HHS vs. Garden City football game while Justice was crowned at halftime.

Other finalists for king were Jacob Cole, Tracy Geddes, Tristan Geddes, Bo Tolbert and Tate Webster. Finalists for queen are Morgan Armbrust, Tatum Dixon, Marisa Eldredge, Carter McFadden and Lexi Williams. All the candidates are seniors.

Also prior to Friday’s game, the Wall of Honor inductees were introduced to the crowd.  The 2018-19 honorees are Kay Alden, class of 1964; Dick Heitschmidt, class of 1970; and Skip Wilson, class of 1976.
